VURVE Signature Salon, East Coast Road

Spread across two levels along Chennai’s East Coast Road, VURVE Signature Salon was envisioned as a high-energy urban salon experience that merges retail identity with spatial movement.
The lower floor houses the primary hair styling and beauty treatment areas, while the upper level accommodates the hair spa and pedicure lounge, opening out into an outdoor sit-out terrace. The planning establishes a clear transition from the fast-paced, socially active lower level to a slower and more relaxed wellness-oriented upper floor.
At the heart of the project is a bold yellow parametric installation that flows through the salon as ceiling, workstation spine and spatial marker. Conceived as an abstract representation of flowing hair, the intervention becomes both sculptural and directional – guiding movement through the salon while creating a strong and memorable visual identity.
The surrounding material palette remains intentionally restrained, with exposed dark ceilings, textured walls, warm wood finishes and muted flooring allowing the yellow form to emerge as the defining spatial protagonist.
This language extends into the staircase murals, where graphic wall art and angular geometries reinforce the idea of movement and transformation. The stairway itself becomes an immersive transition space connecting the two levels of the salon experience.
A recurring red entrance door – now carried across VURVE salons as part of the brand’s spatial identity – acts as a recognisable threshold element, creating continuity across locations while allowing each salon to develop its own distinct architectural language.
The upper floor introduces a softer atmosphere through natural light, greenery and an outdoor sit-out, balancing the project’s otherwise sharp and graphic spatial character.
Designed as both a salon and a brand environment, the project explores how a single architectural gesture can unify circulation, identity and experience within a compact urban footprint.
