THE GROVE HOUSE
Chhatarpur, New Delhi
Located within the dense green fabric of Chhatarpur, The Grove House was envisioned as a quiet residential retreat where architecture dissolves gently into landscape.
Set on a 1200 sq. yard plot with a built area of approximately 4500 sq.ft., the project consciously prioritises openness, gardens and shaded outdoor living over excessive construction. The house is composed as a series of restrained white volumes placed carefully within a cultivated grove of trees and layered planting.
Rather than creating a singular architectural object, the design focuses on atmosphere – filtered light, shadow movement, framed views and a constant visual relationship with the landscape. Deep overhangs, elevated terraces and large openings allow the outdoors to remain embedded within the daily experience of the home.
The material palette remains intentionally understated – muted plastered surfaces, dark stone edges and warm timber soffits create a calm architectural backdrop against which the surrounding landscape becomes the primary spatial experience. Dense planting, shaded pathways and layered garden courts soften the built form and allow the residence to feel immersed within greenery rather than imposed upon it.
The Grove House embraces a softer and more lived-in interpretation of contemporary residential architecture – one where calmness, vegetation and everyday life shape the identity of the home.
