THE LIGHTWELL HOUSE
Gurugram, India
Designed for a multi-generational family, The Lightwell House is organised around a vertical shaft of natural light that brings daylight deep into the centre of the home. Rather than relying on large external openings alone, the house uses an internal lightwell to create visual connections across floors while improving light, ventilation and a sense of openness throughout the residence.
Spread across multiple levels, the house balances shared family spaces with private retreats for different generations. A restrained palette of stone, timber, metal and painted panelling creates continuity across the interiors, while carefully framed views and double-height volumes reinforce the experience of light as the defining architectural element.
The project explores how a compact urban plot can be transformed into a bright, interconnected family home organised around a single spatial idea.
